Brains in my head, feet in my shoes… huh?

“You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You’re on your own and you know what you know.

And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.”

~Dr. Seuss

I came across this quote today, and while I don’t often quote (no, I have NEVER quoted) Dr. Seuss, this one struck a chord with me.  It means that if you have a mind, and you have motivation, you can go anywhere you decide to go.  The road may be rocky, the seas may be rough, but with determination and drive, you’ll get there!

Our next “there” are the islands of St. Maarten, St. Barthelemy and Anguilla. We’ve never been to them before, and look forward to the Dutch, English and French passport stamps in our almost pristine passports.  Originally our intention was to return to the British Virgins since there is always so much to see and do there.  But the wind is blowing another direction this spring for us…slightly to the east and north of the BVIs, to be exact.  These three islands are in the Tropic of Cancer, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea.

The beaches look lovely, the weather and wind are reported to be as great as in the Virgin Islands, so why not go there?  We’ll be joining a flotilla comprised of three catamarans and a monohull…twenty-six people in all.  Jon is going to skipper a 39 foot catamaran and we’ll be sailing for seven days.  Our sail will be bookended by hotel stays just to ensure decompression time!  It’s always nice to hang out on shore in a new country for a few days to get a different perspective from that of a sailor.

Look for more information and be sure to follow our adventures…

In the meantime, Dutch, English and French love to you!

Alyce & Captain Jon
